| the dungeons
Far beneath the protected fortress that Hogwarts is lies the dungeons. They’re cool in temperature, murky and a wee bit frightening. Usually students only enter them if they’re heading towards the detention area.

| lower decks
Located just a level above the dungeons is another sublevel beneath the ground. Its just as unwelcoming as the dungeons though with a bit more traffic. The kitchen is located down here along with the slytherin common room and the potions classroom, store room and the professor’s office.

This is the most travelled part of the school and is usually the busiest. Most day to day activity takes place on this floor, meals, house point counting and other related activities.

A common place for students that are roaming around from one classroom to another hoping not to be late for their lessons. This is also the staff lounge location where teachers are always willing to give help to those that need it.

| second floor
Most students tend to stay away from this corridor unless they’ve enrolled themselves in more advanced lessons since said classrooms are on this level. This is also the place of moaning myrtle’s bathroom is located here, her shrieks tend to startle all those on the floor.

| third floor
This is a very important floor in the castle, it contains the infirmary which causes the corridor to often see a good amount of traffic during the year. Children’s chatter is often heard echoing throughout this wing of the castle as well.

| fourth floor
This is quite the popular floor within the castle, Peeves if often found doing his trickery on this level which always creates some sort of drama. The library is also located here along with student bathrooms and the herbology office.

| fifth floor
One of the other floors that is basically deserted, only Ancient Runes classroom is placed on this floor currently, which means a lot of empty classrooms line the corridors.

| sixth floor
This is a yellow and black dominated area, that’s right the Hufflepuff Common Room is found on this level of the school. Most other houses rarely venture to this part of the castle, though that’s not because the Hufflepuffs are unfriendly.

| seventh floor
Upon the highest level of the castle those brave lions are found. This is the lion’s den, though a variety of students pass through these halls since the Arithmancy Classroom is found on this level of the school.

| the towers
There is basically a tower for everything in this ancient casatle, each tower is of its own importance. The headmaster is found up here along with those intelligent Ravens.

| gryffindor common room
The Gryffindor common room is located in one of the castle's highest towers, the entrance to which is located on the seventh floor in the east wing of the castle and is guarded by a painting of The Fat Lady, who is garbed in a pink dress. She permits entry only after being given the correct password.

| slytherin common room
When believing Harry to be dead and thinking that he has final victory in his grasp, Voldemort proclaims his intention to abolish the other three houses and force all Hogwarts students into Slytherin. This design is foiled by his defeat and death, after which Slytherin becomes more diluted in its blood purity, no longer remaining the pureblood bastion it once was. Its dark reputation, however, does linger.

| ravenclaw common room
The dormitories are located in Ravenclaw Tower on the west side of the school. The common room, which went undescribed in the series until the climax of Deathly Hallows, is round and filled with blue hangings and fat armchairs, has a domed ceiling painted with stars, and also features a replica statue of Rowena wearing her diadem. A logical riddle must be solved in order to gain entry.

| hufflepuff common room
The Hufflepuff dormitories and common room are located somewhere in the basement. The entrance is found behind a life-like painting that is somewhere near the kitchens. Students must give the password to the painting to enter. The Hufflepuff common room is filled with yellow hangings and fat armchairs and it has little underground tunnels leading to the dormitories, all of which have perfectly round doors, like barrel tops (very much like a badger sett).

| to the grounds
This is the way to which you exit the castle and make your way onto the grounds. You have to exit through the clock tower which takes you into the beautiful courtyard and surrounding grounds. There is a long wooden bridge to cross before you can fully explore what Hogwarts has to offer.

| the black lake
This lake is usually placid and serene, and serves as a fantastic hangout for all the students attending the school. It’s a great place in any weather, since you can ice skate in the winter and even swim in the warm spring temperatures. Of course don’t forget about all the creatures that inhabit the water’s depths.

Behind the dirt stained windows of each greenhouse herbology lesson are underway. This is the most likely place to find your lesson being held. Its not advised that you were your best school robes to class in the greenhouses since your often forced to get down and dirty.

| quidditch pitch
This is probably the favourite place of most if not all the students at Hogwarts. It’s a vast green grass covered field that has six extremely tall free standing goal hoops, one on each end. You’ll often hear students cheering on their classmates during a game. And you can’t forget about the ‘friendly’ house rivalry or two. There are also tall stands for all those that come to watch.

| forbidden forest
Named this for a reason, get caught within the confines of these trees and its straight to detention hall for you. The forest is dark, dreary, and of course spooky with all those magical creatures lurking about giving off cries during all hours of the night. Of course forbidden has no meaning within the walls of Hogwarts so students often push their way through the trees whether of their own accord or some sinister dare or other business.

| the owlery
A tall and smelly tower which is located separately from the castle itself, found on the side of the main part of the castle. The owlery is where students keep their owls during the school year. You can either send or wait for mail and the packages.

| hogsmeade
Welcome to everyone’s favourite village. Hogsmeade is the village where many of Hogwarts students spend their weekends, of course they are allowed and if their above their third year. This village has nearly every shop imaginable, from sweets to sporting goods and little designer clothing shops. Need something for school then pick it up here. It’s a beautiful town with its cobble streets paths and quaint little shopes.

This wizarding community is one of a hidden nature right within the city of London. Diagon alley is the one stop for every wizard’s basic before-school shopping. First years are often caught in a state of awe as they witness the little town for the first time. Many many shops are found within this tiny area which is always busting with people.

This is a dark and dreary place, the very contrast to Diagon Alley. Dark wizard’s are often found dwelling with in the streets of this village. It can be a rather dangerous place if you come here with no idea of what your doing.

Hidden within the muggle train station King’s Cross. The platform is the reception point of the Hogwarts express. From this point the students are shuffled in to the bright red steam engine and sped off towards the school for ten months out of the year.
